Artists: Ricardo Romero
Ricardo Romero (1981) was born in Évora and currently lives and works in Leiria, Portugal. Self-taught, he's been using the moniker 'ship' from 1994 when he began stenciling the tag.
From an early age, he adopted an educator's stance, using graffiti and street art to facilitate programs with young people. Throughout the years, he's given multiple classes and workshops on artistic creation and exploration for local youths.
His multi-disciplinary practice, is strongly influenced by urban artistic languages and informs multiple mediums in his work including painting, sculpture, photography and motion graphics.
Since 2005, he has been internationally involved in exhibitions, public art projects, festivals and publications, both as maker and curator.
Romero is the curator and head producer for several large scale Public Art projects, including the social intervention project “Projeto Matilha”, curator of “M Gallery & Studio” in Leiria, and artistic director for “UIVO - Ecos de Arte com, Animais e Gente Dentro ”. He also is head curator for several street art festivals “ Paredes com História” (Leiria),“ Contemplarte” (Tomar), “Estilos Quentes” (Évora), and recently, “Falu” Street Art Festival in Caldas da Rainha.
