RUDOLFO QUINTAS

Porto, Portugal, b. 1980
COLLECTIVE PERCEPTION

Rudolfo Quintas blends art, technology and scientific research to create work that transforms information into something we can experience physically. He often begins with real-time news and the public response surrounding it. He takes that flow of information, which might normally appear as numbers or statistics, and gives it a visual form, offering us a new way to watch public reactions as events unfold.

His ongoing Sentiment Data Paintings explore the enormous flows of information that surround us and the ways we respond to them. News Information reaches us through networks, media and digital systems. Then we respond. We read. React. Share. Reject. Amplify. Ignore. Individually these actions can seem small, but together they become part of a much larger system of collective behaviour.

For Territory, this process moves across very different forms. A large-scale projection lets viewers experience real-time information through a changing environment of image and sound, while crystal sculptures and oxidized copper paintings freeze moments of data and public response into physical form. Some works change in real time, while others hold traces of reactions that have already occurred. Whether Quintas shows us a moment frozen in time or an evolving response to events as they unfold, public sentiment remains part of what shapes the work.

This Territory is COLLECTIVE PERCEPTION.

For Rudolfo, we experience and respond to information as individuals, but our reactions also become part of something collective. His work makes that relationship visible, connecting information and emotion, individual response and public sentiment, digital systems and physical experience. What begins as many individual reactions becomes a picture of how we respond together.
